zakk wylde is got to be one of the top now under Dime. But, with his untimely death there is a lot of weight put on some of these players nowadays to fulfill the legacy he left behind and the influential music he used to pave the way. Vinnie and Dime as everyone says " The Eddie and Alex Van Halen of Metal".

Alexi from Children of Bodom is only 24 and he's right on Vai and Wylde's heels. His playing is amazing, and he writes good songs on top of that. Not to mention a ton of great underground players like Paul Masvidal, Moyses from Krisiun, Trey Azagthoth, Chuck Schuldiner, on and on.....but on this this I gotta go with Dimebag because of the feel and originality.

Yeah Alex from Children of Bodom is awesome I have heard his album. He does a hell of a rendition of Iron Maiden ACES High also.

I voted Zakk Wylde, even though every single one of those guitarists can play extremely well. On some days I also feel that Dave Mustaine is pretty far up there as well.

As much as I love some of those guys (Dime, Zakk, and SRV) Steve Vai can play circles around all of them with his index finger. If you've ever seen him live you know what I'm talking about. I believe that there is no "greatest" whatever, but I've never seen anyone with as much control, speed, passion, and all around knowlege of the guitar as I have with the Vai.

yeah I agree also, but you can also include Devin Townsend in that too he learned from Steve Vai. But even Steve Vai learned from one I forgot to put up there, Joe Satriani.

How could I forget two of my favorites, Erik Rutan and Pat O'brien. Pat writes some of the coolest, tech riffs I've ever heard. Very underrated!

There's just too many good ones to mention, let alone have a small poll about that would do any type of justice. Yngwie J. Malmsteen (despite the fact he is a c o c k bite, it doesn't affect his playing abilities), Andy Timmons, Tore Ostby, John Petrucci, Michael Angelo, John Sykes, Michael Romeo, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker, Buckethead, Shawn Lane, Chris Poland, Gary Moore, Paul Gilbert, Adrian Legg...hell, I could go on for days. What can I say? I'm a drummer who loves guitar playing. I know a lot of people like Dimebag and it's a shame he died...but, IMHO, that man's soloing capabilities really went down the tubes as his career progressed. He was more interested in trying to stretch out noise and harmonics in the end versus playing a solo. It was more of a "fill" than a solo, I guess you'd say. Maybe it was just me. Just my 2 cents worth. Edited for spelling/grammar crap...
